Acupuncture in Corpus Christi – What Is It? Should You Try It?

Written By Mauger Medical on May 12, 2020

AcupunctureAcupuncture has been used in China for over three thousand years.

It made its way to the U.S. in the 1970s. Since then, there have been two schools of thought. One set thinks it’s all a hoax. The other thinks it can help with everything from migraines and asthma to weight issues and more.

Is it all a bunch of hype, or is it something you should try?

What is Acupuncture and Why Should You Try It?

Dr. Mauger, DC, FNP is a Corpus Christi doctor of chiropractic and Family Nurse Practitioner,  who has been trained since 1981 in Acupuncture and practices acupuncture by  placing tiny needles in strategic spots on the body – the feet, the ears, and the back and everywhere in between that calls for relief .

The idea is that there are pathways/meridians of energy or life force, known as chi, running through the body. At times, your body experiences a block in one or more of these meridians. The doctor trained in acupuncture uses the strategically placed needles to unblock the pathway so the chi can flow freely.

Often needles are not necessary to stimulate the acupuncture points of the body region and instead  a small painless electric probe can accomplish the same effect on the body.

Those in Western culture tend to look at things differently. In addition to promoting optimal life-force flow, they theorize that the needles and electric probe stimulation of the acupuncture points stimulate nerves, connective tissue, and muscles  to give the relief needed

Is Acupuncture Just a Hoax?

A 2011 study found that using acupuncture in conjunction with anesthesia during open-heart surgery allowed the doctors to use less anesthetic. The result was a reduction in postoperative morbidity and lower medical costs. Further studies have shown it helps reduce recovery time. Dentists use it, too, as a way to reduce pain and dental anxiety.

Who Can Benefit from Acupuncture Treatments?

An acupuncturist doesn’t just help surgical and dental patients. Acupuncture can help reduce:

  • Pain from arthritis
  • Neck and back pain
  • Tension headaches
  • Migraines
  • Neck and back spasms and cramps
  • Stress related muscle pains
  • Knee and shoulder pains
  • Pain in the wrist and inflammation in the  carpal tunnel

Acupuncture can also help by improving your nervous and musculoskeletal system your general sense of wellbeing:  Patients who are treated for their muscular-skeletal problems often report a better sense of:

  • Mental clarity
  • Concentration
  • Your quality of sleep

Doctor of chiropractic  rendered  Acupuncture  treatments  have resulted in claims that people have seen benefits in  long standing post-accident trauma pain that will not go away following their injuries  with standard therapy procedures and  alsp  report fewer job-related injuries due to overuse type trauma.
